Hello! I’m Azalea
Chasing dreams is what life is about, right? That’s how this girl from Brownsville, TX, Browns…what? Brownsville, TX. We are right at the southernmost tip of Texas. “On the Border, By the Sea” is our slogan!…got to where she is now.
I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications Media Studies. Because I was essentially financially independent the moment I left for college, I worked a lot of odd jobs. Most of my experience came after I graduated in 2017.
My first internship was in operations for a minor league baseball team. The meaning of operations got lost in translation so most of my responsibilities included selling hotdogs and serving drinks to fans. I wanted to get more out of this experience and knowing my career choice, I set up an opportunity for myself by giving post-game interviews a shot. From then, although grateful for the experience, I realized that I might just stick to writing.
So after that summer, in the Fall on 2017, I started to write for Maroon Weekly, a publication about all things Brazos Valley/Bryan-College Station area. That was my first journalist gig where I really dove into reporting on events and people making a difference in the community.
